The Opportunity

We’re looking for a technical leader to architect and evolve next-generation payment solutions that drive global scale and business growth.

You’ll:

• Design and deliver secure, scalable payment architectures across the full transaction lifecycle
• Build and enhance payment frameworks, APIs, and checkout experiences (hosted pages, forms, links)
• Develop payment orchestration layers to optimize routing, costs, and authorization rates
• Balance performance, security, compliance, and cost in system design decisions
• Enable global payments readiness with localization, multi-currency, and regulatory compliance
• Drive frictionless checkout experiences to improve conversion
• Lead high-volume, fault-tolerant system design with strong reliability and disaster recovery
• Strengthen fraud, risk, and dispute management with real-time monitoring and analytics
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship, raising engineering standards
• Simplify integrations through SDKs, APIs, and developer tooling

This role is ideal for someone who can combine deep payments expertise with architectural leadership to build resilient, scalable, and future-ready payment platforms.

About You

• Education & Experience: BTech/BE in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline. 16+ years of experience in full-stack development and enterprise-scale architecture.

Technical Mastery:Expert-level experience with Java/Spring, data structures & algorithms, and building large-scale distributed systems.Deep understanding of system design, microservices frameworks (Spring Boot, Dropwizard, etc.), PaaS environments, and modern web/cloud technologies (REST, gRPC, JSON, Protobufs).Strong background in database design, object modeling, and API ecosystem development.Awareness of trade-offs in architecture (scalability vs. cost, flexibility vs. complexity) to deliver long-term value.Architectural Vision:

• Proven ability to design scalable, high-performance platforms supporting millions of users or transactions.
• Track record of driving architecture roadmaps and influencing technical direction at the org or business-unit level.

• Leadership & Collaboration:
• Ability to influence without authority, guiding multiple engineering teams toward a common vision.
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills to align executives, PMs, and engineers.
• Experience mentoring and developing high-performing technical talent.

Mindset:

• Passion for exploring and experimenting with emerging technologies to maintain technical edge.
• Bias for action and simplification, ensuring speed without compromising stability.
• Commitment to customer focus and business impact in technical decision-making.
• Comfortable working in ambiguous, rapidly changing environments. Can balance engineering tradeoffs.

Additional Key Skills:

• Experience in Payments would be a plus.

The Team

Zuora provides a platform for managing subscription-based businesses, handling billing, invoicing, and payments. It also integrates with accounting systems as a sub-ledger for subscription revenue. This position expects you to work based out of the Bangalore Office.
