StackPath was founded in 2015 by Lance Crosby (Founder and CEO of SoftLayer, acquired by IBM in 2013 for $2B) with a mission to make the internet safe.

StackPath emerged out of stealth with a bang in July 2016 with $180M in funding and a platform that leverages collaborative intelligence to make each of its services smarter, more secure, and easier to use with every threat detected. Four acquisitions provided the initial foundation of the security-as-a-service platform, and an immediately large customer base.

With multiple acquisitions layered beneath the StackPath umbrella (many with their own homegrown systems), Kim Ledesma, VP Billing and Business Information Systems, was clear on the goal: “We needed a standardized platform onto which to migrate and merge all our customers.”

“Zuora met the complexity of our business from a customer subscription basis,” says Ledesma. The flexibility of the Zuora platform enables StackPath to manage different bill cycles for customers, easily handle overage pricing, manage payment information, and more. And, with customer account setup, product setup, and rate plans all structured to work together, migration and implementation has been surprisingly painless -- internally and externally.

Rev rec has been their biggest impetus to quickly migrate existing customers over to Zuora, because Zuora simplifies the accounting and financial reporting processes. “Once the data is in, Zuora automatically determines the right rev rec based on the inputs. Zuora just does it for us, and it’s seamless!”

StackPath also really appreciates the reporting tool which they use to easily build out customized reports for the accounting team, COO, and sales team.

Before the reporting tool, StackPath struggled to get visibility. Within their company, development was focused on the revenue-generating side of the business (i.e. building out the product), so there weren’t any resources to build a reporting tool -- even though they needed it to drive their business.

With Zuora reporting, they get the information they need to manage their business, from revenue forecasting to payment reconciliations and customer outreach. “With the Zuora reporting tool, control is in the user’s hands. We have the ability to access information in an easy, intuitive fashion. It really is a game changer,” says Ledesma.

Thirty thousand customers, ranging from Fortune 100 to early-stage startups, already use StackPath to speed up and secure their website and applications. As StackPath continues to build out their holistic security platform, they will continue to leverage Zuora to move their business forward.
