“With Zuora, we started working with our own data almost immediately, so we could learn, validate, and reconcile much earlier than we expected. Zuora kept work moving by removing blockers and accelerating iterations, which reduced the burden on our internal teams and fundamentally changed what we expected an enterprise implementation could look like.”

About

ConstructConnect provides data and software that help commercial subcontractors, general contractors, and building product manufacturers manage preconstruction. Backed by more than 100 years of experience, its products help construction professionals find project opportunities, manage bids, create estimates with digital takeoff tools, and use market insights to get products specified more often.

The Challenge

ConstructConnect wanted to modernize revenue recognition, move manual revenue adjustments into Zuora Revenue, and support two sets of books for internal management reporting and external GAAP reporting. As the business grew more complex, revenue adjustments were taking more time each month, adding risk the team wanted to eliminate.

At the same time, enterprise implementation required more than technical setup. Zuora sits at the center of ConstructConnect’s quote-to-cash ecosystem, connecting its payment portal, reporting workflows, and other business processes, so any change required coordination across teams, careful testing, and fast answers when something unexpected surfaced.

The Solution

After starting with Zuora Billing, ConstructConnect expanded to Zuora Revenue with Milo, Zuora’s implementation agent. With Milo, the ConstructConnect and Zuora teams could leverage ConstructConnect data from the beginning to identify testing scenarios earlier, move faster through reconciliation, and keep implementation work focused on decisions instead of manual data gathering.

Zuora teams stayed closely involved throughout the process, keeping a human in the loop alongside Milo’s work. The combination of AI-assisted implementation and expert guidance helped the team maintain clarity and momentum while moving quickly.

The Benefits

  • Live sandbox up and running with real ConstructConnect data 1 day after signing
  • Faster blocker resolution: one 5-week internal estimate became a Zuora-built workflow that was ready to test the next day
  • Months saved by keeping implementation moving when resource constraints or unplanned work could have delayed the project
  • Reduced manual risk by bringing revenue processes back into the system instead of relying on out-of-system adjustments.
  • Stronger adoption readiness, with finance users learning the system through pre-launch calls so they could be ready from day one.
  • Completed an implementation that “would have taken years in the old model”

“As soon as we signed, we had a Sandbox environment available to us with real ConstructConnect data in it. We could hit the ground running and start testing right away.”

Enterprise implementations often begin with uncertainty. Teams need to understand what will change, which systems will be touched, how data will move, and who needs to be involved. For ConstructConnect, Zuora Billing was already central to how the business ran day to day, so implementing Zuora Revenue had to preserve the connections that keep the business moving.

ConstructConnect partnered with Zuora across Orders, CPQX, Invoice Settlement, and Zuora Revenue – a transformation Bodge said would have taken years in the old model.

“We were able to get this done much more quickly because of Zuora providing so much support,” Bodge said. “They were able to step in and fill gaps that would have been difficult for us to fill otherwise.”

Before Milo, enterprise software implementations often felt slow and coordination-heavy. As Eric Bodge, VP, Controller at ConstructConnect, described it, the work required extensive quality control and iteration. When a workflow was not working, teams had to determine the impact, line up the right internal resources, make changes, test again, and keep the broader project from losing momentum. Even when teams were aligned, a single blocker could push work out by weeks because the right resources were already committed elsewhere.

With Milo, ConstructConnect saw a different path. One day after signing, the team had a sandbox environment available with real ConstructConnect data. That changed the conversation from abstract design to concrete validation. The team could review examples, reconcile results, and understand where decisions or adjustments were needed much earlier.

That early visibility mattered because ConstructConnect was moving critical revenue work into Zuora Revenue to reduce manual out-of-system adjustments and support both internal and external reporting needs. The team needed to know that billing data would flow into revenue properly, that the two sets of books could be bridged, and that manual processes could be replaced without losing control.

The clearest example came when ConstructConnect discovered it needed to modify a Zuora workflow so billing data could flow into Zuora Revenue the right way. Internally, the estimate was five weeks. The work was real, and the competing priorities were real. Zuora gave ConstructConnect a third path, coming back the next day with a solution ready to test.

Even with agentic implementation, keeping a human in the loop is essential. As Eric described it, AI helped produce the “what” faster, so the humans could focus on the more valuable “why.”

Milo accelerated data gathering and helped identify testing scenarios, summarizing data and surfacing the differences that needed to be reconciled. That freed the Zuora and ConstructConnect teams to use their knowledge of the business to iterate and make decisions, rather than building reconciliations by hand. Zuora kept the same implementation resources engaged with ConstructConnect from phase to phase, so context accumulated instead of resetting — a consistency Bodge said gave him confidence in the process throughout.

For Bodge, the value was not only speed, but confidence and clarity: the team could see real data earlier, understand what needed to change, and make decisions sooner. The measurable acceleration mattered because it changed how implementation felt.

Today, ConstructConnect sees Zuora as the heart of its quote-to-cash process and a partner in helping the business modernize how work gets done. The team has a clearer path to bring revenue processes back into the system, reduce manual risk, and move into future implementations with a stronger starting point.
