Two years ago, we realized that our “home-grown billing system” couldn’t support our rapid growth and plans to go upmarket. We had all these usage add-on services such as background checks, online payments, 1099’s, and property inspections. We needed a way to be able to package products and create custom pricing for customers. We wanted to go to the next level.” explains Melissa Clucas, Controller at Buildium.

Buildium turned to Zuora’s comprehensive subscription management platform. Now, they can launch and iterate new pricing easily to cater to their customers evolving needs. “Our sales and product teams love the ability to launch new products and packages quickly. We recently did away with our old pricing and launched new products and couldn’t have been able to do that with our old billing solution. We set up the product catalogs in Zuora, clicked a button and everything was flowing through!” says Clucas.

Their entire back-end operations such as billing, payments and accounting is now automated. This not only ensures timely and accurate collections but also saves a lot of time for the Buildium team. “I’ve seen huge benefits from a finance perspective. There’s only three of us in finance for a 150 person company. With our home-grown billing solution, I had to comb through all our data, pull out anomalies and recognize the revenue manually. In Zuora I’m able to simply run a report. It has saved me at least a couple of days each month with my financial close” says Clucas.

In addition, Buildium’s customers can now manage their subscriptions directly from their web portal including upgrades, downgrades, and plan changes. Buildium also benefits from Zuora’s reporting which will give them key insight into customer behaviour and overall business health.
