Team & Role

The Training team is a nimble and highly efficient group within Zuora responsible for delivering product training to our customers, partners and employees. We’re collaborative (but still expect each other to own our respective projects); passionate about learning (but realize we must balance time-to-market with perfection); open to giving and receiving honest feedback (but are always kind) so that, in the end, we deliver the highest quality product.

Customers have changed. They’re looking for new ways to engage with businesses. Consumers today have a new set of expectations. They want outcomes, not ownership. Customization, not generalization. Constant improvement, not planned obsolescence.

In the old world (let’s call it the Product Economy) it was all about things. Acquiring new customers, shipping commodities, billing for one-time transactions. But in today’s new era, it’s all about relationships. More and more customers are becoming subscribers because subscription experiences built around services meet consumers’ needs better than the static offerings or a single product.

Our vision is “The World Subscribed” where one day every company will be a part of the Subscription Economy® (a phrase coined by our CEO, Tien Tzuo and author of the best selling book Subscribed).

In late 2016, we launched paid subscription access to Zuora University and now we’re looking for an Instructional Designer with a programming/coding background (who ideally has experience with s/w applications and SaaS business models) to be based in the Chennai office and join our growing team in India.

 What you’ll do & achieve

The Instructional Designer for Zuora University develops training for Customers, Developers, and Solution Architects, partnering with subject matter experts and visual designers to create courseware “from the ground up”.

  • Design, develop, and deliver high-quality, engaging, innovative training
  • Conduct audience, needs, and task analysis
  • Partner with subject matter experts to gather course content, confirm content accuracy and beta test courses created
  • Outline course objectives and design course structure
  • Script e-learning courses and create ILT course materials (PPTs, facilitator guides)
  • Create assessments to check comprehension
  • Partner with visual designers to turn scripts into e-learning courses
  • Manage course development from inception to completion (i.e., release to users)
  • Deliver training if/when needed
  • Update course content to reflect product releases and based on learner feedback
  • Stay up to date with the product features, add-ons, and new releases
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and technologies and apply as relevant

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • 5+ years in instructional design
  • 3+ years experience in programming/coding (+ a keen interest in programming languages)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with instructional design tools (training plans, content scripts, design documents, storyboards)
  • Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS)
  • BA degree in instructional design or related field

Preferred/a plus

  • Simplify complex concepts and processes for learners, making them clear & understandable
  • Mange projects, prioritize, multi-task, asses risk and develop mitigations
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate across functions and levels
  • Apply current industry research and trends, driving best practices within instructional design and delivery
  • Meet deadlines in a fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment
  • Take initiative, be self-directed and flexible; tolerate ambiguity and collaborate
