An expert, agile, practical, business-focused attorney and leader to provide advice and cross-functional support for Zuora Compliance priorities, including privacy and security and HR advice, as well as management of litigation and investigations. 

The Deputy General Counsel, Compliance and Litigation reports to the Chief Legal Officer, and has responsibilities that include: (i) providing advice and support and identifying priorities, programs and remediations for Zuora’s global Compliance strategy; (ii) developing collaborative and influential relationships with Product, Information Security, IT, HR and the Finance and Internal Audit teams; (iii) working collaboratively with Legal colleagues, address Legal compliance priorities, including with respect to privacy and security-related Commercial terms, Product priorities and other risk management efforts; (iv) managing litigation, conducting internal investigations and optimizing internal processes; and (v) effectively managing people and a budget. 

This role can be remote or in person at the option of the successful candidate. There is some opportunity to travel (<10%), especially in support of developing relationships with business partners and Legal teammates.

  • Develop influential relationships, mutual trust and collaborative partnerships within the Information Security, Product, HR, and the Finance and Internal Audit teams, as well as with Legal teammates, and other business partners. 
  • Assess, develop, and advance Zuora’s global Compliance strategy, including ongoing identification, triage and simplification of the most significant worldwide Legal risks in light of Zuora’s Product and go-to-market strategy; development of interesting programs, trainings and self-service content to effectively promote compliance in ways that are tailored to the Zuora audience; and working cross-functionally to simplify and refine compliance-related process controls, such as for vetting of international partners and breach response. 
  • Respectfully lead, motivate and manage in-house and outside counsel to efficiently execute the Compliance strategy.
  • Provide expert and practical advice and support to business partner leaders and teams. 
  • Manage litigation and investigations, collaborate with Legal colleagues, including on privacy and security compliance and M&A diligence support. 
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of Zuora’s business, product roadmaps, go-to-market strategy and competition.
  • Implement practical strategies to support IP protection and ensure fair investigation processes. 
  • Implement and communicate best practices and process automation.

  • Agile and process-oriented; ability to simplify, iterate, automate and operationalize workflows.  
  • Extensive working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills, and able to effectively prioritize multiple complex concurrent issues in a fast paced matrixed environment. 


  • 10 years or more of relevant law firm and/or legal department experience.
  • JD or equivalent from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Demonstrated in-house experience advising and providing practical solutions to the management of privacy, security, HR and other compliance risks, as well as litigation and investigation experience.
  • Experience with SaaS and data analytics are a plus.
